Who: Archers who have taken our Demo Day class and are interested in Olympic Recurve archery.
What: Each level of class will teach the techniques of Olympic Recurve archery based on the USA Archery National Training System (NTS). The NTS uses biomechanics to improve strength and consistency. Mimetics (miming) and low-load training aids such as stretch bands are used in order to practice archery form. Strength exercises are introduced to build muscle capacity. The emphasis is on achieving correct shooting form and rhythm. The bow sight is introduced and bows are equipped with a stabilizer.
Where: The Olympic Recurve class meets at the practice area and are taken by class instructors to a specific target down range.
When: Saturday mornings, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
Equipment-Level One: Olympic Recurve Archery equipment is provided for beginners. Class requires you have your own stretch band. If you do not have one, you may purchase one from the instructor for $3. This class also requires that you have your own finger sling which can be purchased on line for $5, or you may simply bring a shoelace to class.
Equipment-Level Two: Olympic Recurve Archery equipment is provided for beginners. Serious students should plan on purchasing their own archery equipment and will be advised on what equipment to purchase depending on their budget.
Equipment-Level Three: You must own equipment at this level. Different fees and requirements are in place for this level of class. Please refer to the Advanced Archery Coaching page for further details on this ongoing class.
Cost: Five-week course. $75, non-members; $50, PRA members. Participants are required to show the PRA-issued card showing completion of the First-Time Archers class. PRA members may be asked to show their membership card.
How to Join: Must have attended a Demo Day and be on the waiting list for this specific class. After completion of Level One, you are automatically placed on the Level Two class waiting list. After completion of Level Two, you may choose to meet the requirements for the Level Three class (refer to the Advanced Archery Coaching page) or return to the main practice range as a Returning Archer.
